Welcome to the Training Section of our web site.

Vision and leadership are essential components of an effective organization, whether it is a family-run organization or a Fortune 500 company. UACF provides training and technical assistance to help family-run organizations, local family partnership programs, county departments, school districts, child welfare agencies, juvenile justice programs, and private mental health agencies develop a strong vision that articulates the hopes and dreams of a broad range of family members as well as the leadership necessary to focus on families and their children accomplishing their own visions for improved outcomes.

UACF operates within the following core principles:

EES

Educate Equip and Support training: (1) provides parents with education about symptoms of children’s mental health disorders, (2) equips them with information about treatment options, accessing mental health treatment, and local resources available to help address their children’s mental health needs, (3) educates them about accessing entitlement programs and the role of child welfare, education, and juvenile justice in the lives of children with serious emotional disturbances and (4) promotes the building of natural supports between parents in local communities.

Juvenile Justice

The curriculum will provide families and youth with an understanding of the complexities and importance of becoming actively involved in advocating for appropriate services and treatment of family members with juvenile justice involvement. Click on "Juvenile Justice" for more information.

Workforce Connection

Workforce Connection training provides family members with the knowledge and skills necessary for their roles working in the mental health system.  It also provides the knowledge management staff needs to support and supervise family members and provides information on the positions within the mental health system where family members can be an effective employee.

Public Policy Training

The Public Policy Training is designed to give parents, care givers and other advocates insight into how state laws and regulations are made and how to have make an impact on the process.  The Training is in three parts.  In part one, participants learn how an idea becomes a bill and then becomes a law.  Part two teaches participants about the regulatory rule making process.  The final part shows participants how they can become involved in the process to support or oppose new laws and regulations.

How To Tell Your Story:Empowering Family Members

Workshop on how to tell your story, provide practical skills and process tools. Develop a three minute story for system transformation. The goal is to hear the story – what are the problems, what are potential solutions and what are the barriers to the solutions.

Cultural Competence

Cultural competence includes attaining the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to enable administrators and practitioners within and outside of the mental health care systems to provide effective care for diverse populations.  UACF provides diversity training, cultural competence conferences, publications and newsletters, a resource library of material relating to managing diversity, and assistance in the development of an agency “Cultural Competence Plan.”
